Jul 26, 2022 at 0:13 comment added Shannon @selene- warning! removing the parachute & other parts can lead to removing the protection around a pin that is important for the depth of hydrophone deployment. If the parachute & other top plastic parts are removed, there is a chance you will not know if the hydrophone will deploy to your programmed depth!
Jul 25, 2022 at 19:46 comment added selene I know this does not answer the question, but I have, in the past, removed the outer plastic casing and the parachute part of the sonobuoy before deploying to try to reduce the trash as much as possible. Not quite as far as @WMXZ is saying to take them apart but one small step.
