When I put a new SD card in the soundtrap, the software gives me IO error i have try to format it according to the user's manual but when I insert this new card, the software doesn't react. This doesn't happen when I use the EVO SD card that comes with the soundtrap.

Hope anyone can Help me! Mario

  • $\begingroup$ Also, is your new SD card a different brand than EVO? Could you add that info to your question. I know SoundTrap recommends a very specific brand/type of SD card. $\endgroup$

  • $\begingroup$ According to the SoundTrap manual that one (any Samsung EVO microSD) should be fine. Is your computer able to see the card, even though the SoundTrap software does not? $\endgroup$

We had a similar problem when using some Evo Plus cards. When the host software was opened with the cards inserted to a SoundTrap, we got a warning of 'IoTimedOut' and when I try to delete files it gives the error 'Failed to delete files'. We were using new ST640s to format these cards.

We were able to reformat these cards using a different computer with the same soundtraps and software version. Ocean Instruments thinks this was a compatibility issue, with a combination of new soundtraps, this specific card type, and the computer with the Host software. Several instruments have been deployed using these cards since without issue.

If you are still experiencing this issue, make sure your soundtrap firmware and software has been updated and try using a different computer if possible.

You can also do a MSP reset of the board, because sometimes IoTimedOut is a compatibility software issue. You should do this while the SD cards are out of the ST.

Over the SD slot #3, you can see a small pin hole. A paperclip can fit in there. Go to your Service tab, and select 'Update MSP,' and you will see this pop-up: Pop Up message from ST Host using the MSP Update

Press the paperclip into the reset pin hole. There will be a small feeling when you push down the reset button within the hole. Keep the button pushed, and then press OK on ST Host. Follow the instructions ST Host then provides (as in, when to release the button).

This does not always work, but I have found that sometimes SD cards that were working FINE before a deployment, have issues offloading sound files or being reformatted for the next deployment. Sometimes this helps. Other times, I have to use ST Card Host to retrieve the sound files, and then retire the card.
